I've heard over and over about lag. "Lag this... lag that." "We're paying for lag." BLAH BLAH BLAH! What a shame! You're always wanting GMs to fix the lag! Well I have DSL, and I live all the way in Canada, and I RARELY EVER lag (only when it's REALLY REALLY busy). If most of you live in the UK, you should have LESS lag than me, unless you have like a 56k modem. Having a 56k modem means that YOU are lagging, it has nothing to do with the server or the service!

I don't know why the GMs didn't tell people this (maybe I just missed this), but here I am telling you. Lag comes from YOUR connection most of the time. If you have a decent modem, you will not feel any lag. I've been playing for a while, and all I hear is complaints about lag. WHAT LAG? It's YOUR connection that's lagging. NOT the server.

IF THE GMs CANT FIX IT FOR YOU, GET A BETTER MODEM!

I have ADSL and I lag, it might not be the server that lags it is probably some routers that cause the lag. Routers that you obviously do not connect through. We have every right to complain.

I got cable modem = 512kbps.....still lag...

OMG what a complete moron...have you tried playing in the last 6 hours?

Nope. It's Mir's fault this time, not ours.

Lag is at their end, if you had any knowledge of internet servers
and speeds try doing a traceroute and seeing where your connection
falls flat...don't you think we have!!!

Well, in the UK at least, home ADSL users suffer from horrible connection ratios on the home adsl service. Very often 50 users are clammering for access to the same telephone exchange port, which is a limiting factor of course. It means in theory, you could end up crawling at modem speeds.

Thankfully we have a business line that guarentees 20:1 at the worst. Thats why I hardly ever lag, but some other ADSL users do I think.

I've got ADSL and i also have lag sometimes.
Not a bit but very much.
Normally my ping to login.livewiregames.net is 70ms.
And a traceroute shows no rare things.

But when i do have lag it's so much i cant play. (Ping 700 or more)
When i do a traceroute at that time you can see that the
lag starts at the Teleglobe network. All the way to there
its ping 70 or less. Then at the first teleglobe router theping is 600.

yep, the lag is unbearable.

Even a GM's reply is faster than a step on there at the moment.

And it aint my modem, just tried it on a T1 connection at uni, and the lag was the same.

So RedMoonXO, shall I tell the uni their connection is lagging?

Before you comment about connection speeds in future, actually understand that if the server on the other end is crap then even if you have an OC stream you will lag, (I hope you know what OC streams are)

the lag has nothing to do with ur net connection it's to do with the number of connects to a server at a certain point of time. each connection requests data and when u have a high number of connections the server becomes flooded with requests..... thats lag :)

and since im paying (and if u wanna know i'm on cable connection), i feel that we should get a refund or something cause im fed up of paying for a game that is unsatisfactory. so GMs and tech people who run this, do something about it please cause im really getting fed up and bored and lots of others r 2!!

sort out the bandwidth and server specs!

also if ur wondering y i know these things bout servers..its always handy to have a boyfriend thats a technical developer :)

If you all still think it's the server's fault, explain why I don't have lag when I live all the way in Canada.

Hey Moon, what time do you play?
I play in the morning, 6 a.m. eastern to 7 a.m.
Then after work at 5 p.m. to whenever.

I am in Ottawa, and it's usually not too bad, but the last few days,
it's ok in the morning, when it is mid afternoon in Euope, and no lag at all.

At 5 p.m., after the congestion in North America, and when it's late evening in Europe, it's been TERRIBLE.
I have the quickest web times of anybody I know all over the world, really haoppy with cable except in this game.
I play on other European servers all the time, no probs any time at all, but this game server uses the Teleglobe system i gather, and when my tracert hits the teleglobe system for the website OR the game server, it goes over a second now, and I can't play the game worth crap.

Just my two cents,I would like to know how your signal is getting through so fast, because mine flies all the way to the teleglobe Europe system, then dies dead.
i run tracerts ALL the time before I play, and without exception, it's ALWAYS the teleglobe routers that time out or return times over 1000

Can't even search the forums or post or read, because it's so bad even the sql system if timing out and giving me "expired" returns....

I usually play from 3-6 PM eastern (8-11PM british time). On weekends, I play almost all day. I'm from a city in the Great Toronto Area.

I have a 3Mbps cable modem, I can't even play right now. The lag is immense, it hasn't ceased in days. Mir is a piece of ****, they let us play beta, the lag occassionally became bad, and I could simply take some time away. Mainly, they rebooted servers and even created Phoenix. Now that I pay, they have decided lag is no longer an issue. With less than 300 people online at some obscure hour with no traffic, I am still taking up to TEN seconds for every ONE step, how can I do a single thing in this game?!! I urge everyone to cancel their payments, after all, we aren't Koreans, so why should they care about us? Then we can salute them with the middle finger and take off to Mystic Entertainment's The Dark Age of Camelot.

it may be that one of the servers that connections pass through to get to the mir server is having the problem, in which case mulitple location servers would be useful. :)

Moon you don't know what the hell you are talking about so shut up.

I live in the UK, I use 2 ISP's.

One ISP is in my home town, when I use it, I lag like hell, every step is interspaced with Lag.

When I use my other ISP, which isn't local, I get a totally lag Free
connection, even when eveybody else is lagging - I dont.

I have only got a 56k modem and my poxy phone line suffers from line noise so my modem only ever connects at 40000bps and yet can still provide a lag free connection when routed thru fast servers.

Obviously i would use the lag free ISP if I could, but unfortunately
I mostly get an engaged tone when I ring them, so i am then forced
to use the lag ridden local ISP.

Lag is based on what route your connection takes to get to the Mir servers. You are lucky, the route your connection takes is lag free.
Generally your signal will always take the same route, so if you lag because of one slow server in the link to Mir then you will always lag there untill that server is fixed. If the route taken has no slow server like yours obviously does you can look forward to lag free gaming.

So SHUT UP and let people who have lag air their greviances!

The lag is keeping me up from leveling, coz i'm a working person, live in europ i can only play from 19:00-24:00 at this time whole europe seem to use the internet i got horrible ping times to teleglobe (but not with other onlinegames!). I think teleglobe can't handle this amount of traffic (in this hours) so i lag. I played at weekends from 01:00 - 06:00 nearly no lag and my ping times where very good. So ppl who live in other time zones who can play (when night is in europe) have a big advantage against us european players. This "unfair" situation should be fixed very soon by MIR dvelopment or ISP. I'm not willing to pay for a lag-full time anymore. I'll prolly quit after december or earlier. I c other ppl level up easylie and me is laggin the whole time and can't play (lag is sometimes that bad that i can't move for 10sec!!!!) ... :(

MIR switch to a better ISP teleglobe seems to unable to handle the traffic on there routers...

Well im on a 56k modem...I live in the UK use and use Freeserve anytime as my ISP..and i can honestly say...i hardly EVER get lag. i dont believe that it is the modems fault..the lag could be down to ur ISP, or where u live. I very much doubt it is the Mir server causing lag.

Some statements here are totaly off...

The server can handle the users fine. I don't lag THAT much, it seems very random for me... sometimes I get disconnected 3 times in a row and sometimes I can play almost without any lag for hours straight.

It seems like the teleglobe routers is the bottleneck for most people. My ISP added 2 routers on the way, before they did that I had one hell of a bastard lag... but I can still clearly see the router jump to teleglobe... 55ms goes up to 100ms...
And don't forget that the ping isn't always the thing to look for.. if you get a good ping but alot of packet loss then you're basically screwed... lots of packet loss is worse than a high ping in most cases.
