When I am not mistaken the reason for this is that banks in the UK have very high charges. A direct debit payment, if you manage to get your bank to do it all, will result in additional charges of up to 45 US dollars. Also doing transactions in other currencies than british pounds costs extra in most cases. So the problem is not the currency, but the UK bank system. The addition of british pounds was only to correct the severe disadvanteges UK people suffer when paying with anything else than a credit card. In the US or Canada you won't have those problems. Your bank should change the currency no questions asked and with no additional charges. Archnemesis of Chickens, Looter of Idiots and General Help-Forum Guy
