January 8, 2002 — We are very sorry to inform you that we suffered a hacking of our forum.
Saturday the 5th of January the owner of the Balad character managed to
gather login and passwords of many forum accounts, including some of
our staff.
Using the stolen account of Wotan (member of our tech staff), he
unlocked the private forums dedicated to internal discussions between
moderators and GM's and he made some other minor irregularities.
He also gave login and passwords to his friend, owner of the characters
Pyrotic and Defector. They managed then to get in game with Wotan's account
(thoughtlessly he used same login and passwords for both forum and game
access) and they spawned many mobs, killed them and picked up the drops.
Summing to this misbehaviour, we noticed from last weekend's logs that some
items has been duplicated for a database bug that caused also lot of lag.
That's the reason that convinced us to take the decision to rewind the Dragon Server to
the status of last Saturday. We will do this rewind tomorrow morning. To cover this
inconvenience we give every regular player 5 free days.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but it's the best way to restore the balance.
A brand new forum is coming soon, very cool and much safer.
Please be sure to use different login and password for each forum and game,
and mail and whatever.
Balad, Pyrotic and Defector has been deleted.
It's sad that we always have to look after this kind of people, instead
of working hard for Mir's improvement.
